Am considering travelling with BA LHR - SPU in August and am curious what status benefits apply? Particularly around baggage, seat selection etc (aware that I can access lounge at LHR).
Also, how does one go about booking a BA flight with QF points? Is that even possible?
I have had no problems getting One World Emerald baggage allowances or seat selection. On booking it will prompt you to pay for seat selection, just ignore this and complete the booking. Then go back into Manage your Booking and the system will have picked up your One World status and offer free seat selection. I have no experience of booking BA with QF points so can't help with this one.
I'm going to assume that you meant LHR to SPU. The way to go about making the award booking is:
1. Log into your Qantas frequent flyer account. 2. Scroll down to the flight booking and make sure you hit the button that say 'Use Points'
3. Then select London as your outbound and Split as your destination. If you don't hit 'use points' first, it restricts the list of airports to those you can book using cash on qantas routes.
4. Select LHR to SPU and select your dates and then search (you will be redirected to the UK site.) 5. See what award seat options are available.
If you are having trouble phone the Plat. call center for assistance. They may charge you additional points for their help so be aware, and if you make clear you couldn't book using the website they should waive this fee.
FYI on my quick test booking I was only getting indirect flight options i) BA to Madrid, then IB to Split and acees the BA first lounge in T5 (Note, this is not the Concorde Room) ii) Finnair to Helsinki and then down to SPU. Personally I would go via Helsinki as you would get to fly 'True business' on an A350 for part of the trip vs 'euro-business' on the smaller A320's on BA/IB. The Finnair flights depart from T3 so you would also get access to the excellent Cathay First lounge on the way out, and could sample the other oneworld lounges too such as the T3 BA first lounge. If you are flying return, as an OWE, you could also make use of the sauna in the highly rated Finnair Platinum 'non-schengen' lounge on the way back to LHR. Good luck with your booking.
