An Interview with Erin Chase from 5DollarDinners.com

5DollarDinners.com shares budget friendly recipes, coupons, money saving tips and cooking tricks for all those looking to spend less money at the grocery store.

1. Can you tell us a little bit about who you are, what the focus of your company and blog is and what you provide to your readers?

I’m Erin Chase, also known as The $5 Dinner Mom. I have a little problem. I cannot make a meal that costs more than $5. Even if I try. My brain will no longer allow it. It’s filled with prices on my favorite products. It races through recipes and numbers as I go through the grocery store, wondering ‘can I pull off that meal for less than $5? Is that price on those chicken breasts too high to swing a $5 meal?’ It’s unnatural, really. But, my pocketbook thanks me!

2. The average American could save close to $80/month or more. Do you think the average American knows that they could probably save that kind of money by lowering their car payments?

Probably not! I didn’t!

a. If you saved $1,000 a year by refinancing your car, what do you think you would use the extra cash for?

I’d stash it away in one of our savings accounts.

3. What other ways do you advise people to do to help save money?

I advise people to think about saving as spending less money. If you budget $300 for grocery spending, you don’t have to spend it all! Stop thinking about it as saving money at the grocery store, and change your mentality to spend less than your budget allows.

4. What is your favorite website (besides your own) that you go to for financial advice?

JD Roth’s Get Rich Slowly.
