Coffee Break: CBRE adds division for land services
CB RICHARD ELLIS Memphis, anticipating that a lot of land will change hands in the next few years, has established a new land services division.
The commercial real estate broker recently hired Stephen Steinbach, a land specialist, to lead the new unit.
“We believe some of the first distressed product that lenders and (loan) servicers will want to move off their books is land,” said Johnny Lamberson, executive vice president of CBRE Memphis.
Steinbach had been an associate with Land Development Solutions, a consulting firm in civil engineering and land use planning.
No. 1 estimator
Some people make their living aiding investors by estimating the future quarterly or annual earnings of companies.
Nobody does it better in the U.S. than Simon Leopold of Memphis-based Morgan Keegan & Co., according to Financial Times/Starmine rankings released Friday.
Their 2010 rankings have Leopold No. 1 overall in the nation, ahead of No. 2 Mike Salinsky of RBC Capital Markets and No. 3 James West of Barclays Capital.
Earnings estimators use forecasting models, info from management, and basic information on the company to make an estimate.
Leopold follows companies in the communications equipment industry.
Also, Morgan Keegan analyst Chaz Jones was the No. 1 earnings estimator in the road and rail category, and Jamie Stockton was the No. 1 stock picker in health care technology.
