Cuyahoga Community College receives $650,000 grant

Cuyahoga Community College has received a $650,000 grant from the Kresge Foundation of Troy, Mich., to bring in more volunteer tutors.

The grant will be used to recruit professionals working in fields related to various study areas such as algebra and college composition. Current and former Tri-C students, Tri-C employees and members of local community organizations also will be recruited to become tutors. The tutors will be trained and certified by the College Reading and Learning Association.

In addition, a portion of the grant money will fund online tutoring resources and to encourage volunteer tutors to mentor students. A database will be created to match students with tutors who can meet their specific needs.
