Doherty Evans Stott is tailor-made for success

Three former staff members at the Gieves & Hawkes concession in Manchester’s House of Fraser store have branched out on their own to launch a personal tailoring service.

Andrew Doherty, Matthew Evans and Thomas Stott set up their venture after being made redundant when the famous Savile Row tailor decided to pull out of the Deansgate store.

The trio, trading as Doherty Evans Stott, have struck a deal with Gieves & Hawkes that means they use the company’s manufacturing facility in Mauritius for their own label, ensuring that that finished suits are of the same standard.

Andrew said: “We knew there was a market in Manchester because we had customers who loved the products we were selling at Gieves & Hawkes.

“Now when a customer contacts us we have a consultation over the phone as to what their needs are before visiting them at their convenience to measure them up, with a selection of cloths to choose from.

“We can offer up to 5,000 different cloths, all of which are sourced in the UK.”

Once a customer’s measurements are taken and a cloth chosen, it takes six to eight weeks for the suit to be made.

Cloths include cashmere, mohair and silk.

Prices range from £695 to £2,000, depending on the cloth.

Doherty Evans Stott is also offering made-to-measure shirts, using Italian fabrics, and an image consultancy service.
