Emirates to create 60 new jobs at call centre

The airline Emirates today announced the creation of 60 jobs at its international call centre in Wilmslow.

The centre will increase its staff from 240 to 300 and the Dubai-based airline will be looking for bilingual recruits to fill the vacancies.

The centre handles inquiries from customers throughout Europe and the expansion follows the airline’s planned launch of new services from Amsterdam, Prague and Madrid.

Staff at the centre already speak more than 20 different languages and new employees will be required to speak either Spanish, Dutch or Czech.

The centre, which operates 365 days a year, opened in March 2000 with an initial staff of 50 and has since taken more than 10m calls.

Laurie Berryman, Emirates’ area manager UK North, said: “We have a locally-sourced ‘United Nations of talent’ at our customers’ disposal at the contact centre and are proud that we have been able to grow the business and offer more opportunities for talented linguists.

“We never cease to be amazed at the number of multi-lingual people available to us in the Greater Manchester area.”

Angie Robinson, chief executive of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said: “The new jobs for the centre is great news for the area and reinforces Emirates commitment to the expansion of its services out of Manchester Airport and to the north west economy.”
