Lance putts his faith in PerfectPutt
When Lance Taylor became frustrated by his less-than-perfect putting technique, his inventive answer was to develop a product to help golfers on the green.
He came up with the idea for putting aid PerfectPutt and started 27 Putts. The company, based in Bramhall, Cheshire, is named after the number of putts taken on the perfect round of golf.
The device features a convex mirror that clips to the club, enabling the player to see the hole and ensure his or her swing is straight, while maintaining the proper putting stance looking down over the ball.
Lance, a member of Bramhall Golf Club, said: “I have always had an interest in golf but it is only in the last four years or so that I have really started to work on my game.
“I knew that the putting side of my game needed to improve, and I thought that if I could put some kind of mirror on the club so that I could see what I was putting at, it would be a great idea.
“I got one of my wife’s vanity mirrors, stuck it on to my putter with Blu-Tac and the idea worked.
“It helps by enabling you to check that your alignment is correct and your swing path is how it should be, without having to take your eye off the ball.”
Lance, 50, researched his market and found that, while there were other putting aids out there, none worked quite like his.
He drew the initial design using a 3D computer programme and found a Chinese manufacturer online.
He said: “I put a patent application in at Christmas, which gives me 12 months to file a full worldwide patent.
“I also got a video made to show how the product works and registered a website.”
Lance will officially launch the PerfectPutt at the London Golf And Tennis Show in London, which runs from April 30 to May 2, and it will be available on the 27 Putts website from next week.
He said: “The aim is to raise awareness of the product and to get pro-shops at golf clubs to stock it.
“I am not looking for a distributor in the UK, but I hope to go to the US at the end of the year to attend trade shows there, too.
“In that market we would be looking to sign up a distributor to handle it in the US and worldwide.
“I have got some ideas for other products too, which are all golf related, but I want to get this one going first.
“So far, a five-figure sum has been invested by family and friends.”
