MSS swoops for £2.8m Data Sound

Managed Support Services, formerly known as Worthington Nicholls, the Wilmslow-based air conditioning business, has bought health and safety consultancy Data Sound for £2.8m.

Data Sound has its northern office at Manchester Business Park, near Manchester Airport.

The firm turned over £2.3m in the year to September and made pre-tax profits of around £400,000.

Most of its sales are delivered on a contract basis, for between one and three years.

Its management team will stay on as Data Sound is integrated into the Managed Support Services group.

MSS expects the acquisition to be earnings enhancing.

Simon Beart, chief executive of MSS, said: “Data Sound has an impressive business model that delivers high levels of customer service.

“We expect to acquire further operations in the areas of legal compliance for our building services clients.”

In a trading update, MSS said it expects to show a ‘material loss’ for the year to March 31, reflecting closure costs of loss-making contracting units and a restructuring programme following a number of acquisitions.

Worthington Nicholls was renamed MSS in 2008 after a boardroom coup.
