Parma Community General Hospital CEO to retire; successor named

The president and CEO of Parma Community General Hospital has announced that she will retire this summer.

Patricia Ruflin will retire on a yet-undetermined date mid-summer after seven years at the helm and 17 years at the hospital. She will be succeeded by Terry Deis, who currently is the hospital’s chief operating officer.

Mr. Deis has held various positions at Parma Community and, before that, he was at Southwest General Health Center for eight years.

During Ms. Ruflin’s tenure, Parma Community has instituted a smoking ban on the property, begun implementing a computerized physician order entry system and opened an outpatient center in Broadview Heights.

The opening of the outpatient center was just one of the moves Parma Community made to improve its finances after losing $5 million in 2006. In 2007, the area’s last independent hospital temporarily left 53 positions open and kept an eye on staffing and the purchase of supplies and utilities, which ultimately allowed it to trim its budget by $7.7 million.
