Roxtec seals deal with Shell

A Bury-based safety seal manufacturer has won a six-figure contract to supply its products to three Scottish oil and gas plants owned by Shell.

Roxtec, the UK arm of a 96m euro-turnover Swedish company, is supplying its transit seals for use in the St Fergus gas plant in Aberdeenshire, a natural gas and liquids facility in Fife, and the Braefoot Bay receiving terminal.

The company, whose UK turnover grew by £1m to £2.5m in 2008/9, is supplying the products as part of a project managed by the Wood Group.

The seals protect power cables and pipes from fire, leaks, explosions and other hazards.

UK managing director Graham O’Hare said: “The oil and gas market is a key market for us. We have worked hard with the Wood Group to ensure our component meets the right design specification for Shell.

“In essence Roxtec will be used to ensure cables entering underground basements and passing through walls are airtight, gas tight and resistant to fire.”

Roxtec operates in 70 different countries worldwide.
