JAL promises ‘unprecedented’ new A350 first, business class
The Japanese flag-carrier will debut the flagship jet on the Tokyo-New York route.

Japan Airlines wants to spoil and cosset premium travellers like never before, with its forthcoming fleet of Airbus A350-1000 jets boasting all-new first and business class suites.
The Oneworld airline says the A350-1000s will “provide an unprecedented new experience” for passengers as it levels up against rival ANA and its highly-regarded The Suite first class and The Room business class.

Travellers jetting between Tokyo-Haneda and New York will be the first to sample the new suites, with JAL confirming the A350-1000 will take on the popular route during the Northern Winter schedule which begins in November.
The A350-1000 will replace the Boeing 777-300ER as JAL’s long-range flagship. The 777s received a tip-to-tail cabin refresh beginning August 2019 but the core product, including first class and business class, remains clearly dated when viewed against competing carriers.

The airline says it will disclose more details on the A350-1000 “as soon as they are ready”.
Japan Airlines has 13 A350-1000s on order from Airbus; they’ll join the current fleet of mid-sized A350-900s which ply an extensive domestic network.

True what Scott B says.
Working up that way for a long time found both airlines outstanding on ground and in the air but JAL always playing behind the ball after their bailout many years ago.
JAL have good fares on Prem Y out of SYD to Japanese cities and very good for daylight flight and can use QF lounge if needed. You will not have a bad experience on both these carriers.
Flew regulalrly to ports via TYO/SEL on JAL/NH/KE from Dalian (DLC) and times and fares similar but all 3 treated me well and saved countless hours on routings from notorious Chinese air traffic delays on CZ/Shenzhen/CA/MU/Tianjin airlines

I wouldn't mind the J seat if it was 4 inches longer! I have a NRT-MEL early April that was schedule changed from a day flight to an overnight and am dreading trying to sleep. Yet to try ANA, but most reviews put them with Qsuites

Have NY to Japan seats in business over Xmas. Hoping jAL have it on the flights we are on - there are two flights a day. Scored them on Qantas points.

The J seat on the 787-9 is to be avoided at all costs (extensively reviewed) - recently flew SIN-HND and understand why they have been dubbed "the coffin" - the 787-8 is fine. Service outstanding on the ground and in the air, food very good in J, stunning in F with Salon, the only airline in the world to serve this.

Yes, Salon champagne, although very dear price wise, is simply the best there is. I tried a bottle gifted to me several years ago and can confirm that it leaves rivals Dom Perignon and Cristal Rhoderer at the 'back of the bus'. Kudos to JL for serving it in F-class.
