May be a dumb question for some of our very well versed QFFs, but I can’t find the answer anywhere and hoping someone can help. We are flying from CGK to DOH and on to JFK and return in Business (D). Flights purchased through AA and all on QR metal (yay, QSuite on all but one of the flights if they don’t change the planes). I am Qantas FF Gold and these flights and some later in the year will take me very close to Platinum. Will I earn at the AA Qantas status credits rate or the QR rate? Thank you in anticipation.

Regardless of who issued the ticket (AA in your case), you’ll earn based on the carrier marketed tag. So if your flights are AA tagged, the AA rate. If they are QR tagged, the QR rate.

Note that Qantas is tricky with QR codeshares. For example, SYD-LHR via DOH on QR metal will earn nearly nothing regardless of the tag being QR or BA (codeshare). Qantas does that because they directly compete with QR on that route. You’ll find that both CGK-DOH and DOH-JFK have more generous accruals as they are not routes QF operates themselves.

Thanks for your advice FmD, much appreciated. Interestingly, when I use the Qantas calculator and enter the destinations, the only option that comes up is QR and the earn rate is lower than I would have hoped (200 SC CGK-DOH return and 320 SC DOH-JFK return). Maybe they calculate it individually in situations like this.

To be honest, I actually think 520SCs all together for this trip in QR metal is quite generous, specially when you look at the rates QF gives to other partners.

They used to keep the calculator very up to date with the codeshare agreements, doesn’t seen to be the case anymore. If the QR/BA codeshare agreement is anything to go by, QF treats both tags the same.
