Singapore Airlines moving to digital KrisFlyer membership cards

Singapore Airlines will swap paper for pixels with the adoption of digital KrisFlyer membership cards for Apple and Google Android smartphones.

The e-cards work just like the physical cards issued to members of its loyalty program, and are accessible through the airline's mobile app – with the iPhone version loading the card directly into your Apple Wallet.

Cards will still be mailed out to KrisFlyer Elite Silver, Elite Gold, PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club members when they qualify for each tier, but the Star Alliance member is betting that its tech-savvy flyers will prefer to whip out their smartphone and flash the digital card as needed.

(Ye olde fashioned printed cards will of course also be accepted when it comes to priority check-in, lounge access and the like.)

However, entry-level KrisFlyer memebrs who haven't even scaled the ladder to Silver Elite status will no longer receive a printed card after 1 June 2017.

The digital card includes a QR code containing key membership information including your current status tier, tier expiry date, and card expiry date, which the airline says "can be scanned at touchpoints equipped with compatible QR code readers".

The 'back' of the e-card – accessible by tapping the 'i' icon at the lower-right corner of the card – has a live update of your total KrisFlyer miles balance, Elite Miles, PPS Value and requalification date.
