Last chance: Virgin Australia’s double status credit promo ends soon

Velocity frequent flyers, start your engines. Or rather, start booking your next flight, because the first Virgin Australia double status credits promo of 2023 is now in its final days, with midnight February 10 the cut-off to lock in an eligible flight.

To take advantage of this double helping of status credits, simply login to your Velocity account, click on My Velocity and then navigate to the My Offers section, where you’ll see the Bonus Status Credits offer listed. Hit ‘Activate’ and you’re ready to go.

If you’re using the app, it’s even easier, with the promo listed on the first page under Featured Offers.

This new Virgin double status offer is available on bookings across the full Virgin Australia network, including domestic, trans-Tasman and international short haul.

A valid Velocity number must be entered at the time of booking, with midnight on February 10 the cut off. Don’t worry though, you don’t need to travel before that date – the promotion is eligible for departures until March 31, 2023.

Virgin’s latest double-dip is sure to be of interest to frequent travellers, with the additional status credits a handy way to rocket from Red to Silver, Gold and Platinum.

To put it into perspective, a one-way business class flight from Sydney to Brisbane would normally earn 55 status credits. Thanks to this latest promo, you would pocket a tidy 110 points.

With just one return trip, you’d almost have the 250 credits needed to achieve Silver status, and be well on your way to the 500 for Gold.

There is some fine print you need to be aware of though:

  • Codeshare tickets or flights operated by partner airlines are not eligible for this offer
  • The promo is only valid for new bookings, so any made before today will be ineligible
  • Status credits cannot be earned on Velocity reward seat bookings

Rival Qantas also offers double status credits at various times of the year.

Interesting flight cut off dates.

Essentially trying to boost sales in the short term on flights selling seats with few excursion rates (due to short lead time of 8 weeks)

Hope the expense of promoting this DSC offer is worth the return, not sure how many bites it will attract as compared to longer eligible qualifying periods but hey I am only an armchair commentator thinking this is merely a rouse to promote sales to pad the sales figures before the IPO listing

@XWu your 100% right

One of my hats with experience is Trade Marketing and $$$ Uplift. It's been timed perfectly, and very selective at a low turn-over sales point of the year.

I was just talking with 2 of my business partners about this as we were all waiting on a DSC offer.

However we all have our required flights for the next 2 months booked at this stage, so it's of no use to any of us.

Had they given a longer lead time we would have easily purchased other business and leisure tickets now.

I'm not sure it's because of the IPO, because having a longer lead time would have contributed to more dollars in their account now, irrespective of the travel dates.

Ditto to all 3 of you above.  I've got to travel to interstate 6 times between April and July, plus one trans-con across to Perth, but this DSC offer gives me nothing.  As for the IPO, I'll have more sure tips for the Autumn racing carnival than a punt on that.

IPO's I usually buy and dump for a profit, T1 shares did me well, and I sold just before T2 shares hit the market.

Do I take the punt at a Virgin     IPO?

Crickey, I’ve already go +3k status credits. Don’t need more of them!

Would be lovely if VA moved more swiftly on additional recognition for frequent fliers like us.

As another +3K status traveller I agree and I only get one platinum to gift, this year I'm thinking of hitting 1800 status credits and go for 3600 status credits with Qantas? VA (Bain) only cares about there IPO uplift.

I would have loved to book my upcoming trips to Auckland with Virgin. But NO,  i have to fly with Air NZ again as Virgin is only flying to Queenstown NZ.

Take the double status credits and run is my thoughts, looks like Bain is doing the classic Private Equity IPO. Load up the Debt!!!!! VA Mark 3 here we come
